The Burley Idaho Temple: A Reflection of Heritage and Faith

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the 212th dedicated Temple in operation, a significant addition to the Berley area that highlights both faith and local heritage.

Historical Significance

Located at 40 S 150 E, Burley, Idaho 83318, the Temple was announced on April 4, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st General Conference. By that time, Idaho boasted over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints across 1,200 groups. The history of this area dates back to 1855, when early pioneers first settled in Idaho.

The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 4, 2022, led by Brent H. Nielsen. His words resonated with the local community as he expressed, “When soil is turned and seeds are sown, a bountiful harvest is always expected.” This sentiment reflects the deep connection the community has with the land, as the Temple began to rise from the ground.

Architectural Features

The Burley Idaho Temple covers a total of 45,300 square feet and is set on 10.12 acres of land. Standing at an impressive height of 172 feet and an elevation of 4,188 feet, it captures the natural beauty of its surroundings. The exterior is finished with Bianco Sarda granite, lending the Temple a timeless appearance.

Inside, the design incorporates local agricultural heritage through art glass patterns that showcase the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant. The color palette—featuring hues of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green—complements the landscapes of the Magic Valley. The use of quarter-sawn sapele wood throughout the interior adds warmth and a touch of elegance.

Interior Aesthetics

Soft gold broadloom carpets grace the general areas, while creamy white carpets are found in the celestial and sealing rooms. The decorative light fixtures, combining bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, illuminate the interiors splendidly. Crystal chandeliers in spaces like the brides’ room and celestial room create an atmosphere of serene elegance.

The interior doors are crafted from sapele with ornate bronze hardware, designed to feature a potato blossom motif, further reinforcing the connection to local heritage. The Temple’s interior artwork celebrates the dramatic terrain of Idaho’s high plains and agricultural vistas, creating a harmonious blend of faith and the region’s natural beauty.

Important Milestones

The public open house for the Burley Idaho Temple was held from November 6 to November 22, 2025, giving individuals a glimpse into its resplendent design. The dedication took place on January 11, 2026, led by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks, marking the official opening of this significant site in Idaho.

Conclusions

The Burley Idaho Temple not only serves as a spiritual center but also stands as a testament to the rich agricultural heritage and scenic beauty of Idaho. Its design, both exterior and interior, draws deeply from the local landscape, making it a unique representation of faith intertwined with community history. The continuing evolution of the Temple reflects the enduring values and significance of faith in the lives of those in the region, embodying both a sense of belonging and a connection to the land.
