Key Milestones in the Burley Idaho Temple’s History

Announcement and Groundbreaking

The journey of the Burley Idaho Temple began on April 4, 2021, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced its construction during the 191st General Conference. At the time, Idaho was home to over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with around 1,200 congregations—this marked a significant moment for the faith community in the area.

The groundbreaking took place on June 4, 2022, led by Brent H. Nielsen. He shared heartfelt sentiments about the beauty of the Magic Valley, emphasizing the hope for a bountiful spiritual harvest. In his dedicatory prayer, he invoked blessings for the new building, stating, “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord rises out of the ground in this place.”

The Dedication and Layout

On January 11, 2026, the Burley Idaho Temple was dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks, marking the culmination of years of planning and hard work. Built on 10.12 acres, the Temple covers a spacious 45,300 square feet and rises to a height of 172 feet at an elevation of 4,188 feet—an impressive addition to the local skyline.

Interior Design Highlights

The design of the Burley Idaho Temple is richly inspired by the local environment. The exterior features Bianco Sarda granite, lending a timeless elegance to the building. Inside, the artistry continues with details that reflect the area’s agricultural heritage.

Unique Interior Elements

  • Art Glass Patterns: The art glass displays blossoms and leaves from the potato plant, intricately connecting the interior design with the local landscape.
  • Carpet and Flooring: Soft gold broadloom carpets are found in the general areas, while creamy white carpets enhance the celestial and sealing rooms.
  • Light Fixtures: A stunning combination of bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster elements illuminate spaces like the bride’s room and the sealing rooms, creating a serene atmosphere.

Wood and Decorative Features

Quarter-sawn sapele wood is utilized throughout, further enriching the Temple’s aesthetic. The interior doors feature intricate potato blossom designs in rubbed bronze finishes, echoing the themes of nature and heritage woven into the building’s fabric.

A Continuing Tradition

The Burley Idaho Temple is the seventh to be constructed in Idaho, following a series of significant additions to the region’s spiritual landscape that began with the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple in 1945. The Temple’s artwork emphasizes the local terrain and celebrates Idaho’s high plains and agricultural vista.

As the Burley Idaho Temple stands proud in the Magic Valley, it continues to represent the dedication and faith of those who have nurtured its creation, drawing from a rich tapestry of history and community ties.
