The Indianapolis Indiana Temple was announced to the public on October 2, 2010, by the Prophet Thomas S. Monson. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on September 29, 2012, overseen by Elder Donald L. Hallstrom of the Presidency of the Seventy, accompanied by Elder Gregory A. Schwitzer of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. Following a public open house from July 17, 2015, to August 8, 2015, which saw an impressive attendance of 90,000, the Temple was dedicated on August 23, 2015, by the Apostle Henry B. Eyring.
Architectural Details
Occupying 18.11 acres, the Indianapolis Indiana Temple covers an area of 34,000 square feet and stands 106.4 feet tall at an elevation of 849 feet. This single-story Temple is the first of its kind in the city of Carmel, Marion County, and the state of Indiana. The exterior finish features Aero Cream limestone quarried in Myra, Turkey. Besides its practical aspects, its architectural design showcases a single attached end spire that is topped with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.
