Exciting News: The Layton Utah Temple

During the inspiring Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson delivered uplifting news that captivated the hearts of many: the construction of the Layton Utah Temple! Announced on April 1, 2018, this majestic temple stands as a testament to faith and dedication.

Picture this: the Layton Utah Temple, with its striking two attached end spires and a gleaming gold leafed angel Moroni statue, rising elegantly against the skyline. Spanning an impressive 93,539 square feet, the temple includes four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a beautiful baptistry, all designed to facilitate sacred spiritual experiences. Towering at 215 feet and nestled at an elevation of 4,468 feet, this temple is truly a magnificent sight, beautifully situated on an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.

The Layton Utah Temple holds a special place in Utah’s history as the twenty-second temple built in the state and the second temple in Davis County, following the beloved Bountiful Utah Temple. On October 8, 2019, excitement brewed as an official exterior rendering of the temple was unveiled, giving the community a glimpse of the beauty to come.

At the scaled-down groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, shared heartfelt sentiments: “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area, and around the world.” His words resonated deeply, reflecting the collective faith in Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. Elder Randy D. Funk, the first counselor in the Area Presidency, offered a dedicatory prayer, asking for the temple to be “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”

Mark your calendars! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Two special broadcast sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all congregations in the temple district. Leading up to this momentous occasion, a public open house will welcome visitors from April 19 through June 1, 2024, excluding Sundays. A media day for invited guests is set for April 15, followed by exclusive tours from April 16 to April 18, 2024.

The Layton Utah Temple is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of hope, community, and unwavering faith. Get ready to celebrate its opening and embrace all the blessings it will bring to the Layton area!
