Hold onto your hats because we have some exhilarating news to share! During the thrilling Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the much-anticipated construction of the Layton Utah Temple! How exciting is that? Since its announcement on April 1, 2018, this beautiful temple has become a symbol of hope and devotion for the community.
Imagine standing before the Layton Utah Temple, with its stunning two spires reaching toward the heavens and the gleaming gold leafed angel Moroni watching over us all. This magnificent structure not only boasts a generous 93,539 square feet but also features four spacious instruction rooms, six sacred sealing rooms, and a serene baptistry, allowing everyone to cultivate their spiritual journey in a peaceful atmosphere. Towering at a height of 215 feet and nestled at 4,468 feet elevation, this temple is truly a remarkable sight on the southeast side of Layton!
As the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second in Davis County, following the beloved Bountiful Utah Temple, the Layton Utah Temple holds a cherished spot in the hearts of many. In fact, it was constructed on an 11.8-acre parcel that captures the essence of our community. Remember October 8, 2019? That was the day excitement filled the air as the official exterior rendering of the temple was revealed, giving us all a glimpse of the awe-inspiring beauty to come.
Fast forward to May 23, 2020, when the groundbreaking ceremony brought everyone together in celebration. Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, captured the spirit of the occasion perfectly: “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” His words echo our shared conviction in Heavenly Father’s great plan of happiness. And let’s not forget Elder Randy D. Funk, who offered a heartfelt dedicatory prayer, imploring that this temple may shine as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”
Now, the anticipation builds as we prepare for the long-awaited dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over two special broadcast sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., allowing all congregations in the temple district to join in the celebration. But that’s not all! Get ready for a fantastic public open house from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), where everyone will have the chance to explore the temple’s sacred beauty. And mark April 15 in your calendar for an exclusive media day, followed by tours from April 16 to April 18.
