A New Spiritual Gem: The Layton Utah Temple

Get ready for a momentous occasion! At the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson revealed the exciting news that the Layton Utah Temple is set to rise in our beloved community. First announced on April 1, 2018, this magnificent building is not just a temple; it’s a beacon of hope and faith for all Latter-day Saints.

Imagine the stunning sight of the Layton Utah Temple, with its twin end spires soaring above and that iconic gold-leafed angel Moroni statue shining brightly in the sun. Covering a spacious 93,539 square feet, this temple is designed for spiritual nourishment, boasting four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a beautiful baptistry where sacred moments can be cherished. Towering at 215 feet and sitting at an elevation of 4,468 feet, the temple will grace the landscape, nestled in an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.

As the twenty-second temple in Utah and the second in Davis County—following the cherished Bountiful Utah Temple—this new landmark represents a significant milestone for our community. On October 8, 2019, we caught our first glimpse of its beauty when the official exterior rendering was revealed, igniting anticipation across the region.

The groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, brought our community together in joyous celebration. Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area, and around the world.” This temple embodies our trust in Heavenly Father’s marvelous plan of happiness. Elder Randy D. Funk, the first counselor in the Area Presidency, offered a moving dedicatory prayer, asking for the temple to shine as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”

Mark your calendars for an extraordinary day! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the temple dedication on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Sessions will be broadcast live at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for congregations throughout the temple district. Before the dedication, a public open house will invite everyone to explore this sacred space from April 19 through June 1, 2024, excluding Sundays. Plus, on April 15, media representatives will get an exclusive preview, and guided tours will be available for invited guests from April 16 to April 18.

The Layton Utah Temple promises not only to enhance our skyline but also to enrich our lives and community spirit. Get ready to welcome this remarkable place of worship and all the blessings it will unfold for everyone in Layton and beyond!
