Exciting News: The Layton Utah Temple is Coming!

We have some wonderful news to share! During the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced that the Layton Utah Temple is on its way, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! This announcement came on April 1, 2018, and since then, excitement has been building in our community.

Just picture it: the Layton Utah Temple will feature two beautiful end spires topped with a shining gold-leafed angel Moroni statue. It’s going to be a stunning sight! The temple will be a generous 93,539 square feet, featuring four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry for important ceremonies. It will stand tall at 215 feet, perched at an elevation of 4,468 feet, right at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane, nestled on an 11.8-acre pasture in Layton.

This temple holds a special significance as the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second one in Davis County, following our first gem, the Bountiful Utah Temple. On October 8, 2019, we received our first look at what the temple would look like when the official exterior rendering was released, and it was absolutely breathtaking!

At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, we came together as a community to celebrate this exciting milestone. Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site.” His words remind us of the incredible faith of the Latter-day Saints in our area and throughout the world. Elder Randy D. Funk, the first counselor in the Area Presidency, offered an uplifting dedicatory prayer, asking that the temple may serve as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”

Here’s something to mark on your calendars! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will lead the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. There will be two sessions that everyone can join in on at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. If you’re eager to see the temple before the dedication, a public open house will welcome visitors from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (except for Sundays). And don’t forget the special media day on April 15, where invited guests will get a chance to tour this amazing new temple from April 16 to April 18!

The Layton Utah Temple is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of faith and community that we can all look forward to. Pack your excitement and let’s get ready to embrace the joy and blessings it will bring to our area!
