Exciting News: The Layton Utah Temple is Coming!
We’ve got some fantastic news to share! During the uplifting Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson made a wonderful announcement that has our community buzzing with excitement—the Layton Utah Temple is on its way! This beautiful house of worship was officially announced on April 1, 2018, and we can’t wait to see it come to life.
Just picture it: the Layton Utah Temple will feature stunning twin spires, topped with a sparkling gold leafed angel Moroni statue, capturing the beauty of our faith. Spanning an impressive 93,539 square feet, the temple will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry where special moments can be cherished. At 215 feet tall and sitting at 4,468 feet above sea level, this temple will not only add beauty to our skyline but will also be a welcoming space for everyone in our community. It’s being built on a lovely 11.8-acre patch of land at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane.
This temple holds a special place in our hearts as the twenty-second temple in Utah and the second in Davis County, after our beloved Bountiful Utah Temple. On October 8, 2019, we got a sneak peek of what’s to come with the release of the official exterior rendering, which really pumped up our excitement!
At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, shared his joy with us, saying, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site.” His words reminded us that this temple is a product of our faith as a community and a reflection of our beliefs in Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. Elder Randy D. Funk also offered a heartfelt dedicatory prayer, hoping that the temple would be a “beacon of light” for everyone around.
Mark your calendars for a very special event! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. There will be two broadcast sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all of us to enjoy together. Before the big day, we’re thrilled to invite everyone to a public open house from April 19 to June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), where you can come and experience the temple firsthand! There will also be a media day on April 15 for special guests, with tours available from April 16 to April 18.
We can’t wait to welcome the Layton Utah Temple into our community! It’s sure to bring joy and blessings to all of us in Layton and beyond. Let’s celebrate this incredible addition to our spiritual family together!
