Exciting Announcement: The Layton Utah Temple is Coming!
We are thrilled to share some incredible news! During the Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson boldly announced the upcoming construction of the Layton Utah Temple, a development that will undoubtedly strengthen our community. This transformative project was first revealed on April 1, 2018, and it is set to become a significant spiritual landmark.
Visualize the Layton Utah Temple, featuring two elegant spires and a striking gold-leafed angel Moroni statue that will command attention and admiration. With an expansive footprint of 93,539 square feet, it will house four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a beautifully designed baptistry, all crafted to facilitate sacred experiences for everyone who enters. Standing tall at 215 feet and perched at an elevation of 4,468 feet, this stunning temple will be strategically located on an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.
This temple will join the ranks as the twenty-second temple built in Utah and proudly stand as the second in Davis County, following the respected Bountiful Utah Temple. On October 8, 2019, the official exterior rendering was unveiled, and it was met with enthusiasm, showcasing the beauty and significance that this temple will bring to our community.
At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, articulated the excitement surrounding this project, stating, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” These words resonate deeply with our collective commitment to our faith. Elder Randy D. Funk also offered a powerful dedicatory prayer, envisioning this temple as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all,” showcasing the impact it will have.
Prepare to be part of something monumental! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Two sessions will be broadcast live at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., ensuring that congregations in the temple district can join in this historic celebration. Before the dedication, we will open the doors to the public for an open house from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), where everyone can explore the beauty of this sacred space. Additionally, a media day on April 15 will allow select guests to tour the temple in advance.
The Layton Utah Temple is more than just a building—it is destined to become a cornerstone of faith, hope, and community in Layton. We eagerly anticipate its opening and the countless blessings that will flow from this sacred place, enriching the lives of all who visit and serve within its walls.
