The announcement of the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple was made on October 2, 2022, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson. At that time, nearly 6% of Nevada’s population comprised members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, amounting to approximately 180,000 individuals spread across more than 360 congregations. This new temple serves as the fourth in the state, joining the Las Vegas Nevada Temple dedicated in 1989 and the Reno Nevada Temple, dedicated in 2000. Groundbreaking for the Elko Nevada Temple occurred in 2022, just before the announcement of the Lone Mountain Temple.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The groundbreaking for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple took place on September 25, 2025, presided over by Elder Michael A. Dunn, First Counselor in the United States Southwest Area Presidency. His site dedicatory prayer emphasized a call to “help us, as a covenant people, to continue to stand on holy ground, to reach toward heaven even as heaven reaches down to us through this magnificent house of the Lord.”

Architectural Features

Spanning 19.8 acres, this Temple will rise to a height of 196 feet and encompass 70,194 square feet. It is designed as a three-story building featuring a single attached end spire, distinct in that it does not include a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. Inside, the Temple will have four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry.

Timeline of Completion

The rendering for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple was released on February 26, 2024. Following this, a public open house was organized, allowing a total number of attendees to experience the beauty and significance of the Temple. The dedication, an important spiritual milestone, was conducted by a prominent Church leader, whose words underscored the significance of this site.

Location Context

Situated near Lone Mountain in Northwest Las Vegas, the Temple sits at an elevation of 2,557 feet. The closest existing Temple is the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, located approximately 17 miles to the east. The neighborhood of Lone Mountain itself is named after a prominent rocky butte that rises over 3,300 feet above sea level.

This new addition will not only serve the local Latter-day Saints but will also enhance the overall spiritual and architectural fabric of Nevada, solidifying its place in the region’s rich history and ongoing development.
