The journey to the establishment of the Lubbock Texas Temple began on April 2, 2000, during a General Conference announcement by the Prophet. This moment set the stage for the groundbreaking on November 4, 2000, led by Elder Rex D. Pinegar. Elder Pinegar emphasized the family’s connection to a heavenly home, stating, “There are few feelings to match that of ‘coming home.’ We have gathered here today to begin construction of a temple which is the symbol of our heavenly home.”
The public open house took place from March 23 to March 30, 2002, allowing individuals to explore the Temple before its dedication. On April 21, 2002, Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the Lubbock Texas Temple, affirming its purpose and significance.

Design Elements
Covering 2.7 acres and encompassing 16,498 square feet, the single-story Lubbock Texas Temple features a striking exterior finish of Empress white and majestic gray granite, sourced from China. An elegant detail is the single attached end spire crowned with a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, enhancing its visual appeal.
Art Glass and Interior Design
The tall arched windows are adorned with exquisite stained glass, incorporating symbolic rays of light that resonate beautifully against the light-colored granite exterior. Inside, the artwork includes original oil paintings and watercolor-style prints illustrating scenes from Christ’s life and the West Texas landscape, integrating local flora such as the bluebonnet.

The interior is characterized by crystal chandeliers and sconces, utilizing a blend of crystal, bronze, and acrylic elements. The beautifully crafted light-colored wooden doors match the warm interior design, many featuring hand-carved floral motifs, while the exterior doors showcase rich dark wood with polished brass hardware, balancing elegance with sacredness.
Significance in Texas
Set at an elevation of 3,293 feet, the Lubbock Texas Temple was the first Temple established in Lubbock County and stands as the third Temple in Texas, following the Dallas Texas Temple built in 1984 and the Houston Texas Temple completed in 2000. The groundbreaking ceremony coincided with that of the Monterrey Mexico Temple, underscoring the shared spirit of faith.
