Design and Architecture
Impressive Dimensions
Emphasizing elegance, the McAllen Texas Temple is situated on 10.61 acres and encompasses a total floor area of 27,897 square feet. The height reaches an impressive 108 feet, sitting at an elevation of 107 feet.
Architectural Features
The exterior showcases beige precast concrete panels fabricated by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas, giving the Temple a distinctive look. A single attached central tower adds to its graceful profile. Inside, the design includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, catering to the needs of those who come to learn and reflect.
Interior Design Elements
Throughout the interior, soft-gold broadloom carpet covers the general areas and instruction rooms, creating a welcoming atmosphere. In the celestial and sealing rooms, wall-to-wall wool rugs add a touch of luxury, while vibrant area rugs in blues, golds, and greens provide a lively contrast.
Additional Facilities
Alongside the Temple, a meetinghouse of over 19,000 square feet is planned, designed to accommodate three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center. This complementary building underscores the commitment to serving the needs of the faith-filled individuals in the area.
Significance to the Local Faithful
The McAllen Texas Temple marks the fifth Temple built in Texas, standing as a testament to the dedication of those who have strived to cultivate their faith in this delightful valley in southern Texas, extending to Mexico. Elder Rascon’s prayer during the site dedication acknowledged the ongoing efforts and prayers of the Latter-day Saints, expressing gratitude for their determination and devotion.
The McAllen Texas Temple is not only an architectural achievement but also a place deeply woven into the fabric of the local communities, reflecting their aspirations and values.
