Located at 7355 N Linder Rd, Meridian, Idaho 83646, the Meridian Idaho Temple is the 158th dedicated Temple in operation. The Meridian Idaho Temple was announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during the 181st General Conference on April 2, 2011. At that time, Meridian was experiencing rapid growth, becoming the third-largest and fastest-growing city in Idaho, with a remarkable 115 percent population increase from 2000 to 2010. This growth led to the organization of three additional stakes in Meridian and four more in nearby areas such as Nampa, Kuna, and Middleton.
Groundbreaking and Public Reception
The groundbreaking for the Temple took place on August 23, 2014, presided over by Apostle David A. Bednar. This ceremony included civic leaders from the area, including Meridian Mayor Tammy deWeerd and Eagle Mayor James Reynolds. Elder Bednar encouraged attendees to embrace gratitude as a lasting sentiment, remarking on the Temple’s potential to be a light for future generations.
The public open house ran from October 21 to November 11, 2017, drawing over 200,000 people to experience the interior before the dedication. On November 19, 2017, the Temple was dedicated by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf, who prayed for blessings upon all who would enter, emphasizing the importance of service and joy found in this endeavor.
Architectural Beauty and Design Features
Covering 15.73 acres, the Meridian Idaho Temple boasts a classic design that harmonizes with its surroundings. The exterior, finished in precast concrete, features an octagonal dome and a single attached central tower topped by a 13-foot-6-inch statue of the angel Moroni, which was hoisted into place on July 20, 2016.

Inside, the Temple spans 67,331 square feet and includes three instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Unique interior elements, such as the magnificent multi-tiered chandeliers in the Celestial Room, contribute to a warm ambiance. The artistic influence of local landscapes is visible in the design of the art glass with geometric, Art Deco-inspired patterns, and floral motifs that incorporate Idaho’s state flower, the syringa.

During this event, President Uchtdorf recognized the youth as a treasure of the region, highlighting their importance for future generations.
