The Monticello Utah Temple, proudly recognized as the 53rd dedicated temple in the world, stands as a magnificent beacon of faith in Utah. A defining feature of the temple is its single attached spire, crowned with a striking gold leaf statue of the angel Moroni. Originally, the statue was white, but after being struck by lightning, it was brilliantly replaced with the eye-catching gold version, capturing the attention of all who pass by.
The vision for this architectural masterpiece was unveiled on October 4, 1997, followed by a significant groundbreaking ceremony led by Ben B. Banks on November 17 of the same year. Incredibly, construction wrapped up in just eight months—the fastest of any temple associated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—leading to a highly anticipated public open house from July 16 to 18, 1998. The dedication soon followed, taking place on July 26 and 27, 1998, and was officiated by the esteemed Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
In 2002, the temple welcomed the public once again with an open house from November 2 to 9, culminating in a rededication on November 17, also performed by Hinckley. Inside, the Monticello Utah Temple boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistery, all thoughtfully designed within its expansive 11,225 square feet of sacred space.
