On November 29, 2025 I took this picture of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple of Provo, Utah. In the heartfelt closing remarks of the Sunday Afternoon Session during the October 2021 General Conference, the late Prophet Russell M. Nelson ignited a wave of anticipation with the announcement of the temple’s transformative journey—an endeavor that encompassed both the demolition of the old structure and the rise of a magnificent new sanctuary.
As we prepare for this significant transition, February 24, 2024, will mark the closure of the original temple, a moment that, while bittersweet, paves the way for an extraordinary architectural marvel dedicated to connection, worship, and reflection. Members of the temple district are encouraged to draw strength and continue their cherished practices at nearby temples, ensuring that their spiritual journeys remain vibrant during this time.
Nestled at the mouth of the breathtaking Rock Canyon, the new Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is set against a backdrop of majestic mountains, symbolizing a profound connection to the earth and the heavens above. Envisioned to embrace its surroundings, the expansive temple grounds will feature a stunning cascading water feature, adorned with a rich tapestry of flowers, shrubs, and trees that celebrate the beauty inherent in nature. Located just across from the Provo Missionary Training Center, this site will capture the spirit of dedication and purpose that fills the air, an eternal reminder of the service and love that define our faith.
Spanning approximately 163,000 square feet on a generous 17-acre site, the temple will be a sanctuary of inclusivity, offering six instruction rooms, ten sealing rooms, and two baptistries—each designed with care to enhance the sacred experiences of all who enter. The renaming to the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is not just a rebranding; it reverberates with the spiritual significance of the land, stirring a collective celebration as the original temple gracefully prepares for transformation.
As reconstruction takes shape, the anticipated completion in late 2027 promises a blend of tradition and contemporary elegance. The new architectural design, characterized by long, graceful arched windows and a striking multi-level tower crowned with a gleaming golden spire, reflects our evolving faith—one that honors the past while embracing the future.
