The journey to establishing the Moses Lake Washington Temple began with its announcement on April 7, 2019. Groundbreaking and Site Dedication were marked by Brother Stapleton on October 10, 2020. An exterior rendering was unveiled on April 7, 2020, revealing a single-story building covering approximately 20,000 square feet. This layout includes a central spire, complemented by a meetinghouse of approximately 17,000 square feet nearby.
The dedication of the Temple took place on September 17, 2023, led by Apostle Quentin L. Cook. The public had an opportunity to engage with the Temple during the Open House, which ran from August 4 to August 19, 2023, attracting around 290,000 attendees.
Architectural Features
The Moses Lake Washington Temple sits on 17 acres of land and stands at a height of 117 feet, with an elevation of 1,157 feet. Its exterior is crafted with Branco Cristal granite sourced from Portugal, and the architectural design includes a single attached central spire.
Inside, the Temple spans a total floor area of 28,933 square feet. It features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, each designed to facilitate various activities. Flooring materials include marble, carpet, and porcelain tile, offering both elegance and durability.
Aesthetic Details
The design incorporates a blossom motif along with a prairie-style border pattern that reflects the history of the Native Americans in the Moses Lake region. Throughout the interior, decorative elements such as bronze and glass font railings, stained cherry doors, and decorative door hardware made of bronze and brass contribute to the Temple’s overall aesthetic.
Unique Interior Features
The celestial room features a ceiling adorned with decorative paint, coffers, and a dome, adding to the beautiful ambiance within. The use of cherry wood—indigenous to North America—further enhances the Temple’s unique style.
