The journey began with the announcement on April 7, 2019, leading to the groundbreaking and site dedication on October 10, 2020, officiated by Brother Stapleton. The rendering of the Temple was unveiled shortly after on April 7, 2020, showcasing a single-story design covering approximately 20,000 square feet, complemented by a meetinghouse of about 17,000 square feet adjacent to the main building.
Public Engagement
An open house took place from August 4 to August 19, 2023, attracting an impressive 290,000 visitors. This engagement highlighted the interest in the Temple and the community surrounding it. The dedication ceremony was a significant event, led by Apostle Quentin L. Cook on September 17, 2023.
Architectural Features
The Moses Lake Washington Temple occupies 17 acres of land, reaching a height of 117 feet and sitting at an elevation of 1,157 feet. The exterior showcases Branco Cristal granite, quarried in Portugal, which enhances its visual appeal. A central spire is a distinctive feature of this Temple, further emphasized by its overall architectural style.
Interior Elegance
Inside, the Temple spans a total floor area of 28,933 square feet and includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry. Notably, the flooring is a combination of marble, carpet, and porcelain tile, contributing to a thoughtfully designed atmosphere.
Design Details
The interior art glass reflects the exterior’s apple blossom motif, with a similar border pattern that pays homage to the Native Americans who originally inhabited the Moses Lake area. The ornate font railings crafted from bronze and glass add to the intricate details.
In the celestial room, the ceiling features decorative paint, coffers, and a dome, providing a serene experience for those who enter. The doors are stained in a cherry finish and painted maple, with decorative hardware made from bronze and brass, harmonizing with the overall aesthetic of the Temple.
