The announcement of the Moses Lake Washington Temple came during the 189th Annual General Conference by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on April 7, 2019. Following this, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place on October 10, 2020, led by Brother Stapleton. After several years of anticipation, the Temple was dedicated on September 17, 2023, by Apostle Quentin L. Cook.
In preparation for its public introduction, the Temple held an open house from August 4 to August 19, 2023, drawing an impressive 290,000 individuals during this period.
Architectural Features
The exterior of the Moses Lake Washington Temple features Branco Cristal granite that has been quarried in Portugal, coupled with insulated concrete forms for the walls, a steel roof, and a single attached central spire reaching a height of 117 feet.
Design elements include a blossom motif with a prairie-style border pattern that pays homage to the Native Americans who occupied the Moses Lake area long before settlers arrived. The overall design reflects a commitment to aesthetic beauty and cultural significance.
Interior Highlights
Inside, the Temple boasts a total floor area of 28,933 square feet. It contains two instruction rooms and two sealing rooms, alongside a baptistry. The interior showcases a sophisticated flooring combination of marble, carpet, and porcelain tile.
Decorative elements include stained doors finished in cherry and maple, with hardware crafted from bronze and brass. The font railings are also made of bronze and glass. One of the standout features is the celestial room, which has a ceiling adorned with decorative paint, coffers, and a dome, creating an uplifted ambiance.
