The architectural design of the Moses Lake Washington Temple speaks volumes about its purpose and aesthetic appeal. Initially announced on April 7, 2019, the official exterior rendering was revealed a year later on April 7, 2020. The Temple is a single-story building that spans approximately 20,000 square feet and is crowned by a prominent central spire. It is constructed primarily from Branco Cristal granite, which was quarried in Portugal, ensuring durability and a striking appearance.
In addition to the Temple itself, there is a meetinghouse adjacent to the main building, covering around 17,000 square feet. The height of the Temple reaches 117 feet, set against an elevation of 1,157 feet. Insulated concrete forms were utilized for the walls, while the roof and spire are crafted from steel.
Special Design Features
Among the various design elements, the Moses Lake Washington Temple features a blossoming motif that beautifully harmonizes with a prairie-style border pattern. This design reflects the history and culture of the Native Americans who inhabited the area long before agricultural development began.
The interior of the Temple is equally impressive. The flooring incorporates a mix of marble, carpet, and porcelain tile, providing both elegance and comfort. Significant Events Leading to the Dedication
Groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on October 10, 2020, conducted by Brother Stapleton. After several years of planning and construction, the Moses Lake Washington Temple was finally dedicated on September 17, 2023, by Apostle Quentin L. Cook.
One of the highlights leading up to the dedication was the public open house that took place from August 4th through the 19th, 2023, attracting an impressive 290,000 individuals who came to explore and appreciate this new addition.
