The journey to the creation of this Temple began on October 3, 1992, when it was first announced. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place shortly thereafter on October 9, 1993, conducted by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple opened its doors to the public from August 6, 1996, through September 21, 1996, welcoming an impressive 679,217 attendees during this period. Following the public open house, the Temple was dedicated from October 13 to October 19, 1996, also by Gordon B. Hinckley.
Notable Features
Covering 16.7 acres, the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple features a stunning exterior finish of sierra white granite. The design is enhanced by art glass windows and striking bronze doors, creating a unique aesthetic that draws attention.
One of the most defining architectural elements is the single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. This statue was installed on July 17, 1995, in the presence of approximately 20,000 onlookers.
Layout and Size
Measuring 107,240 square feet and built at a height of 190 feet, the Temple sits at an impressive elevation of 4,764 feet. This makes it the second Temple in Utah County and the ninth in Utah overall.
Within the interior, the Temple is thoughtfully designed with four instruction rooms, eight sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The adaptive floor plan closely resembles that of the Bountiful Utah Temple, creating a functional and harmonious experience for its users.
Inscription of Importance
A prominent inscription, “Holiness to the Lord,” is thoughtfully displayed twice on the Temple. It appears once on the exterior above the east windows and is also etched into the glass near the west entrance, encapsulating the purpose and reverence associated with this sacred site.
