The announcement of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple came on October 3, 1992, marking the beginning of a significant journey. The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred shortly thereafter on October 9, 1993, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. After years of anticipation, the public open house allowed over 679,217 individuals to tour the Temple from August 6, 1996, to September 21, 1996. The dedication took place from October 13, 1996, to October 19, 1996, also conducted by Gordon B. Hinckley.
Architectural Features
The Temple spans 107,240 square feet and rises to a height of 190 feet, sitting at an elevation of 4,764 feet. It rests on 16.7 acres of land, which was originally designated as church welfare land. The exterior features a sierra white granite finish complemented by art glass windows and bronze doors. An impressive single attached end spire is topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was installed on July 17, 1995, attracting an audience of about 20,000 people.
