Since its announcement on October 2, 2004, this beautiful edifice has become a prominent feature of the area, with a rich history that enhances its significance.
A Rich History
The ceremonial groundbreaking took place on August 5, 2006, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, who remarked, “It is a great tribute to our people. They are so faithful in temple attendance, and it is for this reason that we construct this beautiful house of the Lord.” This sentiment reflects the commitment to creating a space that resonates deeply with the values of those in the region.
The Draper Utah Temple opened its doors for a public open house from January 15 to March 14, 2009, attracting an impressive 684,721 guests who toured the magnificent facility. The excitement surrounding this event highlighted the anticipation leading up to the official dedication, which occurred from March 20 to 22, 2009, under the direction of Prophet Thomas S. Monson.
Architectural Marvel
Spanning 58,300 square feet on a generous 12-acre lot, the Draper Utah Temple showcases stunning architectural features, including a single attached central spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, installed on July 8, 2008. The exterior is adorned in radiant white granite imported from China, complemented by limestone from France, presenting an elegant contrast.
Inside, the Draper Utah Temple is equally impressive. It houses four instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all thoughtfully designed to cater to various sacred functions. Notably, the largest sealing room accommodates up to 80 patrons, while the baptistry, located on the downhill western side, benefits from natural light filtering through floor-to-ceiling windows.
A Unique Design
One of the standout features of the Draper Utah Temple is its incorporation of Makore wood from Africa, adding warmth and character to the interior. The temple’s 221 exterior windows and 50 interior windows, alongside 432 door panels, consist of an astounding 35,420 hand-cut pieces of glass. These windows are crafted in the Log Cabin quilt pattern, reminiscent of the creativity and resilience of early pioneers.
The theme of the sego lily, Utah’s state flower, weaves throughout the design, integrating the natural beauty of the region into the overall aesthetic. The ordinance rooms feature hand-painted panoramas depicting stunning mountain scenes and iconic views of Draper’s Corner Canyon, offering a serene backdrop for reflection and learning.

Positioned at an elevation of 5,136 feet and reaching a height of 166 feet, the Draper Utah Temple offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Conveniently located adjacent to a meeting house, the site has been designed with accessibility in mind, providing a parking lot with capacity for 492 vehicles, ensuring ample space for those who come to appreciate its splendor.
