The story of the Oakland California Temple began on January 23, 1961, when it was officially announced. Groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on May 26, 1962, presided over by Prophet David O. McKay. The anticipation culminated in the first Public Open House held from October 5 through October 31, 1964, allowing many to experience its interior before the subsequent dedication.
The Oakland California Temple was dedicated over a span of three days from November 17 to November 19, 1964, also under the direction of Prophet David O. McKay. Fast forward to more recent events, the Temple underwent a third public viewing from May 11 to June 1, 2019, culminating in its rededication on June 16, 2019, led by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks.

The Temple spans an impressive 80,157 square feet and rises to a height of 170 feet, sitting atop an elevation of 664 feet.
