History and Opening
The journey to the realization of the Saratoga Springs Utah Temple began with its announcement by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference on April 2, 2017. The groundbreaking took place on October 19, 2018, conducted by Craig C. Christensen, who expressed the immense blessings this Temple would bring to individuals and families. The public open house ran from April 15 to July 8, 2023, lasting a total of 84 days before the dedicated ceremony.
Design and Architecture
Spanning 87,836 square feet and built on 22.71 acres, this Temple stands at a height of 199 feet 9 inches and is situated at an elevation of 4,652 feet, overlooking the vastness of Utah Lake and the Wasatch Front. The exterior is finished with eight-inch thick beige precast concrete panels, while the striking spire is constructed from glass fiber reinforced concrete.
Notable architectural features include a decorative band that wraps around the exterior, showcasing a mountain design along with representations of Utah Lake wetlands and snowy egrets—symbolizing the local environment and the identity of Saratoga Springs City. The building’s core is supported by steel and concrete shear walls, ensuring both durability and beauty.
The expansive plaza area faces east and is framed by evergreens and mountain shrubs, providing a scenic view of the valley. The interiors are equally impressive, with a combination of carpets, porcelain tiles, and glass tiles throughout the Temple. The bathrooms feature unique “rug-like” patterns, offering a sense of continuity in design.
Art and Natural References
Art glass stained windows draw inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement, incorporating colors and forms that reflect Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains in shades of purple, blue, green, and gold. The design throughout the Temple also includes stylized flowers, representing local wildflowers such as iris, daisy, and chrysanthemum, which are complemented by stylized lines indicating water and waves—a nod to the nearby Wasatch Mountain Range and Utah Lake.
Particularly striking are the art glass panels in the baptistry, which depict snowy egrets in wetlands, mirroring the Saratoga Springs City logo. These panels beautifully communicate the connection between the Temple and its surrounding nature.
Facilities
The Saratoga Springs Utah Temple features four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The baptistry font dazzles with TREND Mosaic Brillante glass tiles in various blues, whites, creams, and purples, while the font railings use antique brass, sapele African mahogany, and glass—a harmonious blend of materials that highlights thoughtful craftsmanship.
In the bridal room, a luxurious Schonbek light fixture illuminates the space, while the decorative door hardware features designs inspired by the art glass, integrating the Temple’s thematic elements into every detail.
For an enhanced architectural experience, most ceilings are painted gypsum with special stepped ceilings and custom medallions showcasing floral and foliage patterns.

The Temple also houses numerous artworks, including “Evening Flight” by Adair Payne, “Evening, Distant Mountain” by Brad Aldridge, and “Timpanogos from Across the Lake” by Bruce Brainard, among others. These pieces enrich the atmosphere, infusing the space with deeper meaning and visual beauty.
