Welcome to the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple, a true gem nestled in Yukon, Oklahoma! As the 95th dedicated temple in operation, this beautiful building has been a source of inspiration and community for so many.
Let’s take a little stroll through its fascinating history! The temple was first announced on March 14, 1999, and just a few months later, Elder Rex D. Pinegar broke ground on July 3, 1999. After a lot of hard work and anticipation, the doors opened for the first public open house from July 8 to July 22, 2000, inviting the community to come and marvel at its beauty.
On July 30, 2000, Apostle James E. Faust dedicated the temple, welcoming around 9,000 members into its warm embrace. Over the years, it has become a cherished place for people from Oklahoma and surrounding states like Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri.
In 2019, the temple got a little makeover! It closed for renovations on October 15, 2017, and after a lot of love and care, it was rededicated by Apostle Henry B. Eyring on May 19, 2019, following another public open house from April 24 to May 1.
The temple stands out with its gorgeous beige limestone exterior and an eye-catching gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue atop its spire. Inside, the elegant Italian marble finishes create a peaceful and inviting atmosphere, perfect for reflection. It’s equipped with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, ready to serve the spiritual needs of visitors.
