Exciting changes are on the horizon for the Provo Utah Temple! In the closing remarks at the October 2021 General Conference, the late Prophet Russell M. Nelson shared the inspiring news: the temple will undergo a major transformation, involving demolition and reconstruction, starting after the dedication of the Orem Utah Temple. Mark your calendars—the existing temple will officially close on Saturday, February 24, 2024, signaling a new chapter for worship in the area. The new Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be a stunning addition to the landscape, perched on the east bench of Provo, right at the mouth of Rock Canyon. This breathtaking site will provide a magnificent backdrop of towering mountains, blending beautifully with nature. Picture sprawling temple grounds featuring a captivating cascading water feature, all surrounded by a vibrant display of flowers, shrubs, and trees that echo the region’s natural charm. Just steps away is the bustling Provo Missionary Training Center, where countless missionaries prepare for global service, enriching the community’s spirit of dedication.
Spanning approximately 163,000 square feet across 17 acres, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will include six instruction rooms, ten sealing rooms, and two baptistries, thoughtfully designed to create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere for all who visit. The excitement builds with the renaming of the temple on February 20, 2024, followed by the original temple’s closure and demolition on February 24, 2024. With reconstruction set to take place, we can look forward to completion in late 2027, unveiling a striking blend of timeless and contemporary architectural styles, complete with elegant arched windows and a stunning multi-level tower topped by a gleaming spire.
