During the Sunday Afternoon Session of the October 2021 General Conference, the beloved late Prophet Russell M. Nelson shared exciting news about the Provo Utah Temple. It will soon undergo a remarkable transformation through demolition and reconstruction, starting after the dedication of the Orem Utah Temple. The existing temple will close its doors on Saturday, February 24, 2024, signaling a new chapter while encouraging members to engage in sacred ordinances at nearby temples in the meantime.
The upcoming Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple promises to be a stunning addition to Provo’s east bench, nestled at the entrance of the breathtaking Rock Canyon. With majestic mountain views as its backdrop, this new temple will feature beautifully landscaped grounds, including a serene cascading water feature surrounded by vibrant flowers, shrubs, and trees that celebrate the local beauty. Right across the street is the lively Provo Missionary Training Center, infusing the area with a spirit of dedication and purpose.
With its impressive 163,000-square-foot footprint on 17 acres, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will house six instruction rooms, ten sealing rooms, and two baptistries, all designed with the community in mind. On February 20, 2024, the temple will be officially renamed, and just days later, on February 24, the original structure will close and be torn down, making way for something new and inspiring. The anticipated completion date for the reconstruction is late 2027, featuring a blend of traditional elegance and contemporary flair, with stunning arched windows and a striking multi-level tower topped by a gleaming spire—truly a sight to behold!
This new temple will be built to rigorous seismic codes, ensuring safety and resilience, while also incorporating energy-efficient electrical, heating, and plumbing systems—an embodiment of modern sustainability. The main entrance will welcome visitors with three grand white arches, radiating warmth and hospitality.
