Announcement and Groundbreaking
The announcement of the Palmyra New York Temple took place on February 21, 1999. Just a few months later, on May 25, 1999, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
Open House and Dedication
After a period of construction, a public open house was held from March 25 to April 1, 2000. Following this, the Temple was officially dedicated on April 6, 2000, again by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. This date is notably significant as it marks exactly 170 years since the founding of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayette, New York, on April 6, 1830.

Design and Layout
The Palmyra New York Temple spans an impressive 10,900 square feet and is situated on 5 acres of land. Its exterior is adorned with Bethel white granite, providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance that blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. A single attached spire is topped with a gold-leaded Angel Moroni statue, enhancing its distinct profile.
Interior Highlights
Inside the Temple, one can find two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, each thoughtfully designed to facilitate different aspects of the Temple experience. Additionally, the stained glass windows feature etchings of the Sacred Grove, a nod to the profound history associated with this location.

The Palmyra New York Temple is strategically positioned at an elevation of 578 feet, just beyond the Sacred Grove, where Joseph Smith experienced a pivotal vision in the spring of 1820.
