The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is a truly special place, and I’d love to share a bit about it with you! This stunning temple, which is the 152nd dedicated temple in operation, is located at 1739 Vine St, right in the heart of Philadelphia.
The story of this beautiful temple started back on October 4, 2008, when it was officially announced. Fast forward to September 17, 2011, when Apostle Henry B. Eyring came to break ground and dedicate the site. That was an exciting day, marking the beginning of what would become a beloved part of the community!
After years of anticipation, the temple finally welcomed visitors with an open house from August 10 to September 6, 2016. Over 140,000 people came through its doors during this time, eager to see the incredible spaces inside. Not long after, on September 18, 2016, the temple was dedicated by Apostle Eyring, making it an unforgettable day for all who attended.
The temple sits on a lovely 1.6-acre site and features a striking exterior finish of white granite that blends nicely with the surrounding buildings. This beautiful granite was quarried from Maine and expertly crafted in Canada! With its two lovely end spires topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, the temple truly stands out in the skyline.
Inside, the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is 61,466 square feet of warmth and beauty. Its design draws inspiration from the American Georgian period, which you can see in the carefully chosen flooring materials. The interior stone came all the way from Egypt and was beautifully crafted in Italy, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. You’ll also notice lovely brass lamps throughout the temple that reflect the charm of that special period.
For those looking to celebrate important moments, the temple has two instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a serene baptistry. The baptistry’s railing, with its elegant bronze and glass panels, is especially stunning!
