The Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple stands as a remarkable landmark, proudly holding the title of the 152nd dedicated temple in operation! Nestled at 1739 Vine Street in Philadelphia, this architectural gem invites visitors with its striking presence and rich history.

The temple’s journey began with its announcement on October 4, 2008, followed by a significant groundbreaking and site dedication on September 17, 2011, officiated by the esteemed Apostle Henry B. Eyring. Fast forward to the public open house, which ran from August 10 to September 6, 2016—over 140,000 guests flocked to experience the beauty and spirituality it offers.

On September 18, 2016, the temple was officially dedicated by the same apostle, marking a proud moment for the community. Set on a modest 1.6 acres, the temple boasts an exterior crafted from exquisite white granite, sourced from the rugged quarries of Maine and expertly fabricated in Canada. Its neoclassical design features two elegant spires crowned by a golden Angel Moroni statue, adding to its grandeur.

Inside, the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple spans an impressive 61,466 square feet, thoughtfully designed with two instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a serene baptistry. The interior flooring reflects the elegance of the American Georgian period, while the stone itself has an origin story all its own—quarried in Egypt and beautifully crafted in Italy.

Visitors will marvel at the brass lamps that illuminate the space and the baptismal railing made from polished bronze with glass panels, marrying tradition with contemporary design. The temple’s height, reaching 208 feet 2 inches and sitting at an elevation of 32 feet, certainly makes it a standout in the Philadelphia skyline.

And let’s not forget, the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is a proud first for the state, becoming the very first temple built in Pennsylvania. Plus, just north of the temple, there’s a distribution center that adds to its operational vitality.

Everything about the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple invites reflection and reverence, making it a cherished part of the city’s landscape!
