Plentiful Generations of One Family All Worshipped in the Same Building — Now It’s the Phoenix Arizona Temple

Discovering the Phoenix Arizona Temple

The Phoenix Arizona Temple holds a significant place as the 144th dedicated Temple in operation. Located at 5220 W Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, Arizona 85310, this remarkable building is a testament to spiritual dedication and architectural beauty.

Phoenix Arizona Temple Temple News

The announcement for the Phoenix Arizona Temple came on May 24, 2008, when Prophet Thomas S. Monson revealed plans for a fifth Temple in Arizona. He emphasized its importance, stating, “The blessings of the temple are eternal. Those who come to this holy house will feel of God’s love for His children and come to a greater understanding of their own divine origin and potential as His sons and daughters.”

A significant milestone was reached on June 4, 2011, when the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by Apostle Ronald A. Rasband. Following years of anticipation, the public open house occurred from October 10 through November 1, 2014, culminating in the dedication ceremony on November 16, 2014, officiated again by Prophet Thomas S. Monson.

Architectural Excellence

Spanning 5.19 acres, the Phoenix Arizona Temple showcases an exterior finish of precast integral colored concrete panels. The standout feature is its single attached central spire crowned with a gold leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which was placed atop the Temple on May 15, 2013.

Interior Features

With a total area of 64,870 square feet and a height of 90 feet, the interior of the Temple is designed to inspire. Key spaces include two instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, each reflecting the artistic influence of the Arizona landscape.

The Celestial Room is particularly noteworthy; instead of a traditional large chandelier, it boasts a stunning stained-glass skylight that bathes the room in light. The interior doors are crafted from African Sapele wood, complemented by bronze hardware. Notably, the exterior doors are also bronze, and the railings around the baptismal font utilize bronze materials, blending elegance with durability.

Artistic Elements

The artistic features of the Temple stand out, with the exterior and interior art glass made from the Agave plant and its blossoms. Murals depicting various aspects of the Arizona landscape adorn the instruction rooms, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.

Location and Access

The Phoenix Arizona Temple is the first Temple to be built in the city and holds the distinction of being the third Temple in Maricopa County and the fifth in the state of Arizona. Adjacent to the Temple, a chapel is conveniently located in the same shared parking lot, serving as a supportive feature for the surrounding area.

In summary, the Phoenix Arizona Temple is a notable addition to the rich tapestry of Arizona, combining architectural beauty, spiritual significance, and a deep connection to the land it occupies. Its design and amenities contribute to its role as a center for reflection and inspiration.
