Discovering the Phoenix Arizona Temple

The Phoenix Arizona Temple, the 144th dedicated Temple in operation, stands as a significant addition to the spiritual landscape of Arizona. Located at 5220 W Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, Arizona 85310, this impressive edifice offers a unique blend of architectural beauty and spiritual significance.

LDS Temple News Presents Phoenix Arizona Temple

The announcement for the Phoenix Arizona Temple was made on May 24, 2008, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. In his words, he expressed the importance of the Temple, stating: “The blessings of the Temple are eternal. Those who come to this holy house will feel of God’s love for His children and come to a greater understanding of their own divine origin and potential as His sons and daughters.”

The groundbreaking event took place on June 4, 2011, led by Apostle Ronald A. Rasband, marking the beginning of a significant journey in the community’s spiritual growth. The public was able to experience an open house from October 10 to November 1, 2014, culminating in the dedication of the Temple on November 16, 2014, performed once again by Prophet Thomas S. Monson.

Architectural Features

Covering an area of 5.19 acres, the Temple features a striking exterior finished with precast integral colored concrete panels. One of its most notable architectural elements is the single attached central spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which was placed on the Temple on May 15, 2013.

The interior design is just as captivating, with a total area of 64,870 square feet and a height of 90 feet. The elevation of the Temple stands at 1,388 feet. Inside, you will find two instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all decorated with art and imagery that resonates with the unique Arizona landscape.

Noteworthy Interior Details

The Celestial Room of the Temple is particularly remarkable as it features a stunning stained-glass skylight instead of the traditional large central chandelier. The interior doors, crafted from African Sapele wood, add an elegant touch alongside bronze hardware, which is consistent throughout both interior and exterior installations.

Unique Artistic Elements

Reflecting the natural beauty of the region, the art glass found in both the exterior and interior of the Temple incorporates designs inspired by the Agave plant and its blossoms. Murals in the instruction rooms also depict various aspects of the Arizona landscape, creating a harmonious connection between the space and its surroundings.

Community Integration

The Phoenix Arizona Temple is complemented by a chapel located within the same shared parking lot, fostering a cohesive environment for spiritual and social interaction.

A Significant Milestone

Not only is this the first Temple built in the city of Phoenix, but it also represents the third Temple in Maricopa County and the fifth Temple in the state of Arizona. Its establishment marks an important milestone, offering an opportunity for individuals and families to deepen their understanding of their divine heritage and potential.

In summary, the Phoenix Arizona Temple is a blend of beauty, history, and spiritual significance, making it a profound addition to the landscape of Phoenix. The meticulous attention to architectural and artistic details ensures that it serves as a source of inspiration for many.
