Discovering the Grand Junction Colorado Temple
The Grand Junction Colorado Temple, the 210th dedicated temple in operation, stands as an inspiring site located at 678 Horizon Dr, Grand Junction, CO 81506. This remarkable addition to Colorado’s landscape was announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the General Conference on April 4, 2021. It marked a significant milestone as the third temple in Colorado, following the Denver Colorado Temple established in 1986 and the Fort Collins Colorado Temple in 2016.

The roots of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Colorado trace back to 1896, with the establishment of the first mission. The first official congregation came together just a year later in January 1897. By the time of the temple announcement, Colorado had over 150,000 members and approximately 310 congregations. The temple aims to enhance the spiritual life of local members and serve the broader area.
Groundbreaking and Construction
The groundbreaking for the Grand Junction Colorado Temple occurred on April 16, 2022, led by Apostle Chi Hong Sam Wong of the Quorum of the Seventy. During this event, Elder Wong highlighted themes of gratitude and spiritual momentum in his dedicatory prayer. Construction began on a 6.94-acre site, with a total area of 29,630 square feet, designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding high-desert vistas.
Architectural Features
The temple features an exterior clad in Portuguese Pedras Salgadas granite, offering a subtle warmth that resonates with the rugged terrain. Standing at a height of 118.8 feet, the design includes a single attached end spire but notably does not feature a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. The serene landscaping is bordered by an Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence finished in bronze.
Within the interior, artwork includes pieces from local artists, such as Ken Stockton and Wilson Hurley, capturing the breathtaking landscapes representative of Colorado. The design incorporates a color palette that mirrors the local flora, including crimson, amber, green, and pale pink tones derived from the claret cup cactus.
Interior Design Elements
Elegant Features
The interior design is characterized by solid wood doors, custom-designed carpets, and crystal chandeliers, all of which contribute to a refined ambiance. Significant craftsmanship is evident, with millwork fashioned from African sapele hardwood and additional design elements paying tribute to the area’s orchards.
In the baptismal area, a distinctive motif symbolizes the blending of two rivers, echoing the geographical significance of Grand Junction. Artwork combines rich colors and textures, elevating the interior’s overall aesthetic.
Unique Amenities
The Grand Junction Colorado Temple includes essential facilities such as two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all designed to enhance the spiritual environment.
The public open house, slated for September 11 through September 27, 2025, will provide the opportunity for the broader community to experience the temple’s beauty and significance prior to its dedication.
A Vision for the Future
As one of the first 100 temples announced by President Russell M. Nelson since his call to leadership, the Grand Junction Colorado Temple is positioned to become a key part of spiritual life in western Colorado. After its dedication, it became the westernmost temple in the state, located less than 30 miles from Utah’s border. This temple stands not only as a place of quiet reflection but also as a testament to the enduring legacy of faith in the region.
