Pocatello Idaho Temple: A Landmark of Significance
The Pocatello Idaho Temple stands as the 170th dedicated Temple in operation within the Church. Located at 3100 Butte St, Pocatello, Idaho 83201, this beautiful edifice has captivated the attention of many since its announcement on April 2, 2017.
Pocatello Idaho Temple
Groundbreaking and site dedication took place on March 16, 2019, conducted by Elder Wilford W. Andersen. A public open house allowed for a remarkable turnout, with 250,721 individuals visiting between September 18 and October 23, 2021. The Temple was officially dedicated on November 7, 2021, by Apostle M. Russell Ballard. During the dedication, Elder Ballard expressed hopes for the local population, specifically mentioning youth and children, to feel divine love within this place of significance.
Architectural Features
The Pocatello Idaho Temple encompasses 71,125 square feet, with a height of 194 feet 6 inches and situated at an elevation of 4,989 feet. Notably designed with a stunning white granite exterior sourced from China, it features a central spire crowned with a gold-leafed statue of Angel Moroni. The architectural layout includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
Landscaping and Surroundings
Spanning across 10.94 acres, the Temple grounds have been thoughtfully landscaped. Over 500 trees and thousands of flowers beautify the area, featuring species such as the Norwegian sunset maple, sawleaf zelkova, and Dolgo crabapple. The selection of shrubs emphasizes vibrant colors with varieties like English lavender and snowberry. Additionally, the perimeter is lined with white firs, alpine firs, and lodgepole pines, resembling the indigenous flora from nearby mountains.
Notable Interior Elements
The chapel area of the Pocatello Idaho Temple features exquisite stained glass depicting Jesus Christ holding a Lamb. This artistic design enhances the spiritual atmosphere of the space. Another highlight is the grand staircase, exquisitely clad in travertine limestone, adding a touch of elegance to the three-story design.
Symbolic Stained Glass Windows
The stained glass windows within the Temple serve as a testament to Idaho’s natural beauty, incorporating images of wildflowers from the Idaho mountain desert. Notably, the syringa—the state’s flower—and the bitterroot are represented in the art glass. The color palette includes sage, to reflect the region’s sagebrush, gold for the wild grasses, and hues of pink and coral representing the sunset and local flora.

The Pocatello Idaho Temple is strategically located, easily visible from both Interstate 15 and Interstate 86.
A Long-awaited Addition
Interestingly, Pocatello had plans for a Temple as far back as the 1930s, but unforeseen water obstacles delayed this dream until the introduction of the Pocatello Idaho Temple in 2017.
