The journey of the Portland Oregon Temple began with an announcement on April 7, 1984. The Temple’s groundbreaking and site dedication took place on September 30, 1986, led by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. After years of anticipation, the public open house ran from June 15 to July 8, 1989, welcoming an astounding 314,232 individuals. The formal dedication occurred between August 19 and August 21, 1989, again presided over by Gordon B. Hinckley.
Architectural Details
Situated on 7.3 acres, the Portland Oregon Temple encompasses 80,500 square feet and reaches a height of 181 feet, with an elevation of 235 feet. Its exterior features exquisite white Vermont marble walls paired with a distinctive green Vermont slate roof. Notable architectural elements include six attached spires and four domes, accentuated by a gold-leafed Angel Moroni perched atop.
Inside the Temple
