The journey toward this Temple began on April 7, 1984, when it was officially announced. A significant milestone occurred on September 30, 1986, when the Prophet Gordon B. After several years of construction, the public open house took place from June 15th through July 8, 1989. An impressive total of 314,232 individuals attended, eager to explore this new space. The dedication occurred over three days, from August 19th to August 21st, 1989, also officiated by Gordon B. Hinckley.
Architectural Features
Covering an expansive 7.3 acres, the Portland Oregon Temple showcases stunning architectural features. The exterior is adorned with white Vermont marble walls complemented by a green Vermont slate roof. Six attached spires, four domes, and a gold-leafed Angel Moroni atop the structure contribute to its beauty.
