Exciting news for the Winchester, Virginia community: the highly anticipated Winchester Virginia Temple is set to be completed by late 2028! Nestled on an expansive 11.27 acres at 200 Merrimans Lane, this beautiful temple has been a vision for many since it was announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 2, 2023.
The groundbreaking and site dedication, led by Robert M. Daines on August 9, 2025, marked a significant milestone for the project, bringing the community one step closer to this spiritual sanctuary. With a striking design featuring a single attached end tower—distinctively characterized by the absence of a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue—the temple will encompass 30,000 square feet of sacred space.
Inside, you’ll find two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a single baptistry, all thoughtfully designed to support the spiritual needs of the area. Perched at an elevation of 820 feet, the temple promises to offer breathtaking views and a serene ambiance for all who visit.
While we wait for the temple’s completion, its rendering—released on December 16, 2024—offers a glimpse into the beautiful architecture that will soon grace our city. As the second temple built in Virginia, the Winchester Virginia Temple will serve over 97,000 residents across 215 congregations, acting as a beacon of hope and faith for the community.
Keep an eye out for updates on this exciting journey to completion!
