The Richmond Virginia Temple was announced on April 1, 2018, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 1888th annual General Conference. The groundbreaking and site dedication followed on April 11, 2020, officiated by Randall K. Bennett. Following a public open house from March 25 to April 15, 2023, the Temple was officially dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks on May 7, 2023.

Architectural Features

The architectural design of the Richmond Virginia Temple includes a striking single attached end spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. The exterior is clad in Moleanos limestone from Portugal, contributing to its elegant appearance. Inside, the Temple includes four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all within a spacious 39,202 square feet.

Design Elements

The height of the Richmond Virginia Temple reaches an impressive 164 feet, sitting at an elevation of 280 feet. The stained glass windows feature a beautiful color palette of blue, gold, and red, inspired by early American designs. The diamond motif incorporated in the windows is reminiscent of local traditions.

The landscaping around the Temple is thoughtfully chosen to complement the colonial atmosphere of the area. Inside, the flooring alternates between plush carpet and marble stone, designed in a diamond parquet pattern. A striking royal navy-blue carpet featuring an octagonal shape pattern is also prominent throughout the building. The octagonal form, familiar in Jeffersonian designs, enhances both aesthetic and architectural appeal.

Final Thoughts

The Richmond Virginia Temple not only adds to the beauty of Glen Allen but also serves as a significant cultural and historical addition to Virginia. From its elegant finishes to its thoughtful design, every aspect reflects a commitment to quality and tradition.
