This exciting revelation marked the beginning of a new chapter for the region. Following this, the groundbreaking and site dedication were held on April 11, 2020, led by Randall K. Bennett. Architectural Features
The exterior finish features Moleanos limestone, sourced from Portugal, giving the Temple a distinct and elegant appearance. One can admire its single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, a testament to classic craftsmanship. The stained glass windows, designed in blue, gold, and red, draw inspiration from an early American color palette. They incorporate a diamond motif that reflects local design influences, reminiscent of the simple divided light seen in colonial Virginia’s historic buildings.
Interior Design Elements
Inside, the Richmond Virginia Temple encompasses 39,202 square feet and features various rooms tailored for specific purposes. It includes four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The building’s design also showcases elements reflective of Jeffersonian architecture. The floors are a combination of carpet and marble stone, arranged in a diamond parquet pattern, creating an inviting atmosphere throughout the Temple.
The carpet, in a royal navy-blue color adorned with an octagon shape pattern, resonates with the building’s overall design theme. The octagon shape is reminiscent of forms often found in the works of Thomas Jefferson, adding a layer of historical relevance to the Temple’s interior.
Landscaping and Surroundings
Surrounding the Richmond Virginia Temple, the landscaping is thoughtfully curated to match the colonial atmosphere of the area. Plants chosen for the exterior help to complement the overall aesthetic, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and architectural design.
