The announcement for the Richmond Virginia Temple occurred on April 1, 2018, when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson shared the news during the 188th annual General Conference. This was followed by the groundbreaking and site dedication on April 11, 2020, officiated by Randall K. Bennett.
Open House and Dedication
The public open house ran from March 25 through April 15, 2023, offering a glimpse into the interior and exterior of this beautiful addition to Virginia. The Richmond Virginia Temple was dedicated by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks on May 7, 2023, marking its official opening for regular activities and service.
Architectural Features
The Richmond Virginia Temple is adorned with Moleanos limestone sourced from Portugal, providing a unique exterior finish. It features a single attached end spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni, a striking element that enhances its visual appeal.

Spanning a total of 39,202 square feet, this Temple includes four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The height of the building reaches 164 feet, and it is situated at an elevation of 280 feet.
