The announcement of the Richmond Virginia Temple took place on April 1, 2018, during the 1888th annual General Conference, delivered by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson. Following this, the groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on April 11, 2020, led by Randall K. Bennett.
The anticipation surrounding the Temple grew as the public open house ran from March 25 through April 15, 2023. The Temple was later dedicated by the Prophet Dallin H. Oaks on May 7, 2023.
Architectural Features
The architectural style of the Richmond Virginia Temple is particularly striking. Its exterior finish is clad in Moleanos limestone sourced from Portugal. This natural stone provides a unique aesthetic, complemented by the gold-leafed Angel Moroni atop the single attached end spire.
