It was announced on September 3, 1998, and the groundbreaking took place on February 6, 1999, led by Loren C. Dunn.
After the excitement of construction, the Raleigh North Carolina Temple opened its doors to the public for the first time from December 3 to December 11, 1999, allowing everyone to come and see its beauty. The official dedication occurred shortly after, on December 18 and 19, 1999, by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley.
Fast forward to recent years, and the Raleigh North Carolina Temple had a second public open house from September 21 to September 28, 2019, which was a fantastic opportunity for many to revisit its serene surroundings. The second rededication took place on October 13, 2019, led by Apostle M. Russell Ballard, a moment filled with joy for the Temple.
The Raleigh North Carolina Temple itself is built on a lovely 3.17 acres and features a beautiful exterior finish of beige limestone. One of its standout architectural highlights is the single attached spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, which can be seen from afar. Inside, the temple boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, providing sacred spaces for its visitors.
With a spacious area of 12,864 square feet and standing at a height of 83 feet 9 inches, the Raleigh North Carolina Temple sits at an elevation of 447 feet, offering scenic views. It holds the distinction of being the very first temple in North Carolina, making it a cherished Temple for many!
