Great news for everyone in Zimbabwe! The announcement of the Harare Zimbabwe Temple came on April 3, 2016, during the uplifting 186th Annual General Conference, shared with us by the beloved Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey for many families in our community.
Then, on December 12, 2020, we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Edward Dube, a wonderful native of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His heartfelt words, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” filled us with hope and excitement. We were also honored by the presence of President Mnangagwa, patrons spoke glowingly about how the Church contributes to our nation and the well-being of its people.
Mark your calendars for a special occasion! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will open its doors for a Public Open House from January 22 to February 7, 2026. It’s a fantastic opportunity to come see this beautiful new temple, located at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare. Spanning across 6.7 acres and standing at an impressive height of 103 feet 4 inches, it features a lovely architectural design with a single attached end spire (though it won’t have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni). Inside, you’ll find two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, all within a spacious 17,247 square feet.
The artistic rendering of the temple shared with us on October 1, 2020, sparked a lot of excitement! This temple is such a blessing, especially since many local members had to travel 13 hours to reach the Johannesburg South African Temple before. Now, the Harare Zimbabwe Temple will be the first one in our beautiful country and the eighth in Africa—what a milestone for our community! With around 26,000 members, six stakes, and two districts in Zimbabwe.
We’ll always cherish the moment when Prophet Russell M. Nelson visited the temple site on April 17, 2018. His visit inspired so many of us! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple represents more than just a building; it’s a warm place of Temple Work and community. We can’t wait to see this beautifulcent temple completed and to come together in faith. Get ready to join in this joyful journey!
