Harare Zimbabwe Temple

Exciting developments are underway in Zimbabwe! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by the respected Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This announcement marked a significant moment in our community’s history.

On December 12, 2020, we celebrated a momentous occasion with the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Edward Dube, a proud native of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His powerful words, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” resonated deeply with all in attendance. President Mnangagwa was also present, affirming the Church’s invaluable role in national development and the well-being of Zimbabwe’s citizens. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”

Get ready to mark your calendars! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will host its Public Open House from January 22 to February 7, 2026, a fantastic opportunity for everyone to experience this remarkable new Temple firsthand. Located at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare, the temple will occupy an impressive 6.7 acres and stand at 103 feet 4 inches tall, featuring a striking single attached end spire—note that it will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, it will boast two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, offering a spacious 17,247 square feet of sacred space.

The artistic rendering of the temple was revealed on October 1, 2020, signaling the start of a wonderful journey for our community. This temple represents a significant blessing, especially as it alleviates the burden of a 13-hour travel to the Johannesburg South African Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will be the first in our beautiful country and the eighth in Africa, a monumental achievement for our local members, patrons number around 26,000 across six stakes and two districts.

Additionally, the visit by Prophet Russell M. Nelson to the temple site on April 17, 2018, during his tour was a defining moment for us all. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is much more than just a building; it is a beacon of hope and a center for spiritual growth and connection.
