Great news for the people of Zimbabwe! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by the esteemed Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This marked the exciting beginning of a transformative journey toward establishing a center of faith and community.
On December 12, 2020, we celebrated a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Edward Dube, a proud native of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His powerful words, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” perfectly captured the spirit of optimism that filled the day. President Mnangagwa also attended and recognized the Church’s vital contributions to the nation’s development and the well-being of its citizens, reinforcing the significance of this Temple. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”
Mark your calendars! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will open its doors for a Public Open House from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This is an incredible opportunity for everyone to witness this majestic new addition to our community at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare. Spanning an impressive 6.7 acres and standing at 103 feet 4 inches, this temple features a distinctive single attached end spire—no gold-leafed Angel Moroni this time around. Inside, it houses two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and a baptistry, all within a spacious 17,247 square feet!
We got a glimpse of the temple’s stunning design when the rendering was released on October 1, 2020. This temple is a game changer for our members, eliminating the 13-hour journey to the Johannesburg South African Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will be the first in our beautiful nation and the eighth in Africa, celebrating a monumental achievement for our local community, which already includes around 26,000 members, six stakes, and two districts!
A pivotal moment occurred when Prophet Russell M. Nelson visited the temple site on April 17, 2018, during his tour, further energizing and inspiring the community about this fantastic Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is set to be a beacon of hope, connection, and spiritual growth for all of us. We are confident that this beautiful Tem,ple will enrich our lives and strengthen our faith for generations to come!
