We are pleased to announce the forthcoming Harare Zimbabwe Temple, which was officially introduced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This announcement marked the beginning of an important journey toward establishing a significant place of Temple Work and service in the region.

On December 12, 2020, the groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by Elder Edward Dube, a respected native of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His inspiring remarks emphasized the spiritual significance of the temple, stating, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.” The attendance of President Mnangagwa at this ceremony underscores the importance of this initiative to the country, as he acknowledged the Church’s vital contributions to national development and the welfare of its citizens. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”

We invite the community to participate in the Public Open House for the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, scheduled from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This will be an opportunity for all to explore this impressive addition to our community. The temple is strategically located at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare, covering an area of 6.7 acres and standing at a height of 103 feet 4 inches. The design features a single attached end spire, and it is noteworthy that it will not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, the temple will house two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, encompassing a total of 17,247 square feet.

The rendering of the temple was unveiled on October 1, 2020, generating enthusiasm within the community. The establishment of the Harare Zimbabwe Temple will significantly reduce travel times for members patrons previously needed to journey 13 hours to reach the Johannesburg South African Temple. As the first temple in Zimbabwe and the eighth in Africa, it represents a remarkable milestone for a community that includes approximately 26,000 members, organized into six stakes and two districts.

Additionally, the visit of Prophet Russell M. Nelson to the temple site on April 17, 2018, during his tour, served to further strengthen the commitment to this important Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is poised to become not only a place of Temple Work but also a center for spiritual growth and community engagement. We look forward to witnessing the dedication of this significant structure and the positive impact it will have on the local community for years to come.
