The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is set for a major transformation, with demolition and reconstruction planned after the Orem Utah Temple’s dedication. The current temple will officially close on February 24, 2024, marking the end of its ordinance work. Members in the area are encouraged to visit nearby temples for their sacred ordinances during this time.

The new temple will be located at Provo’s east bench, near Rock Canyon, offering a stunning backdrop of mountains. It will boast beautiful grounds featuring a cascading water feature and diverse landscaping, highlighting the region’s natural beauty. The Provo Missionary Training Center (MTC) is nearby, adding to the area’s vibrant spirit.

With a footprint of about 163,000 square feet on a 17-acre site, the temple will include six instruction rooms, ten sealing rooms, and two baptistries, designed to serve patrons comfortably.

The new temple will be named the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple on February 20, 2024, following the closure of the original structure. Reconstruction is in progress, with completion expected in late 2027. The architecture will blend traditional and contemporary elements, featuring elegant arched windows and a multi-level tower topped with a golden spire, marking a shift from the original design.

Safety is a priority, as the temple will meet current seismic codes and include energy-efficient systems. The design will feature three grand white arches at the entrance, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The modern construction will use durable materials, and notably, the new temple won’t have the Angel Moroni statue atop its spire.

The 17-acre grounds will integrate hardscaping and beautiful landscaping, focusing on native, drought-tolerant plants to support sustainability. The gardens will be thoughtfully designed with diverse trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowers for year-round appeal. The anticipated water features will enhance the serene environment, making it a peaceful retreat.
