Discover the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple: A New Beacon of Faith!
Excitement is building in the heart of Provo, Utah, as the construction of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is officially underway! Initially announced on October 3, 2021, by the beloved Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this temple promises to be a magnificent addition to the landscape of spiritual homes in Utah.
A Grand Vision Takes Shape
Spanning an impressive 163,000 square feet, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will occupy a 17-acre site, larger than the previous temple’s footprint of 15 acres thanks to the removal of the road at the old front. This larger space will allow for more beauty and functionality within the temple grounds, as well as enhanced parking options for visitors, including a lot conveniently located across the street.
A Stunning Design
The temple will feature a stunning granite exterior, exuding elegance and strength. Unlike its predecessor, this grand structure will sport a single attached central spire, distinguishing it with its unique architectural flair. Notably, there will be no gold-leafed Angel Moroni on top, as the original one is currently in storage. Isn’t it fascinating how temples can evolve while preserving their sacred purpose?
Elevation and Location
Sitting at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be a striking presence against the stunning backdrop of Utah’s mountains. Located at 2200 Temple Hill Dr, Provo, UT 84604, this temple will stand proud at a height of 81 meters (265 feet 6 inches), making it a landmark everyone will want to visit.
A Growing Community
With about 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and around 500 congregations throughout Utah, this temple will serve as the sixth in the state. The need for such a sacred place of worship continues to grow, and the Rock Canyon Temple will be a welcome haven for the community.
Construction Timeline
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, and the anticipated completion date is set for late 2027. Mark your calendars! We can hardly wait to witness this magnificent building’s progress and eventual opening.
A New Name for a New Era
Once known simply as the Provo Utah Temple, the decision to rename it to the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple was announced on February 20, 2024, reflecting its new, elevated stature and the beautiful rock canyons that characterize the area.
