Exciting News: The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple!
A Majestic Addition to the Utah Landscape!
Big news for the residents of Provo and the larger Latter-day Saint community – the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is on the horizon! Announced on October 3, 2021, by none other than President Russell M. Nelson, this stunning new temple promises to be a magnificent addition to the spiritual and architectural landscape of Utah.
A New Era Begins
Construction officially kicked off on February 24, 2024, and the anticipation is electric! Located at 2200 Temple Hill Dr, Provo, UT 84604, this monumental structure will stand as the 6th temple in the state, serving the growing community of around 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With approximately 500 congregations in Utah alone, the demand for this sacred space has never been greater.
Temple Features
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will cover an expansive 163,000 square feet on a 17-acre site, offering more room than the previous temple, thanks to taking out a road at its old entrance. Get ready to be awed by its granite exterior and elegant design. The new temple will feature a single attached central spire, adding a touch of elegance to the skyline, although notably, it will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni—its predecessor’s statue is currently in storage.
Standing tall at 265 feet 6 inches (81 meters) and perched at an elevation of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level, this temple will undoubtedly become a prominent feature of Provo’s breathtaking scenery.
Parking and Accessibility
One exciting feature is that the new temple will not share a parking lot with a meetinghouse. Instead, guests will find a dedicated parking area off to the corner, across the street, ensuring smooth access for all visitors.
Community and Spirit
Slated for completion in late 2027, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is more than just a building; it’s a place where faith, community, and service will thrive. With the immense growth of the Latter-day Saint community, this temple represents hope, inspiration, and a promise of connection for families and individuals alike.
A Monumental Vision
The rendering of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple was unveiled on November 24, 2021, offering a glimpse into the beauty and significance of this divine structure. Its new name replaced the earlier title of the Provo Utah Temple on February 20, 2024, marking a fresh chapter in its legacy.
As we look forward to its completion, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple stands as a beacon of faith and a symbol of community unity. Whether you’re in Provo or visiting from abroad, this temple will be a must-see destination for all who seek spiritual solace and connection.
