Discovering the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple

The Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple, a significant addition to Brazil’s spiritual landscape, is set to open its doors for an open house from June 13 to June 27, 2026. Located at Rua Professor Jose Vieira de Mendonça, 1485, Engenho Nogueira, Belo Horizonte–MG, this Temple will serve a vital role for many individuals in the area.

The announcement of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple was made on April 4, 2021, by President Russell M. Nelson during the 191st Annual General Conference. This moment marked a new chapter for the faithful in Minas Gerais, a state that has long awaited its first Temple. On June 17, 2023, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place in a ceremony attended by approximately 500 attendees. Elder Juan A. Uceda presided over the event and offered a heartfelt prayer, asking for special protection for those living within the Temple district and expressing hopes for the light of the gospel to shine throughout the region.

With a total area of 11.8 acres, this Temple boasts a unique architectural design, featuring a single attached central tower with a pyramid roof. Interestingly, it will not have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, setting it apart from many other Temples. Inside, there are two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, all within a total of 27,000 square feet. The elevation of the site is 2,740 feet, providing a unique perspective on the surrounding landscape.

The rendering of the Temple was revealed to the public on September 23, 2021, offering a glimpse of what is to come. The dedication of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple is scheduled for August 16, 2026, bringing together many who have long anticipated this important occasion.

The construction of the Temple comes at a time when the Church has seen considerable growth in Brazil, with over 1.4 million members and 2,100 congregations throughout the country. The Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple becomes the 12th to be established in Brazil, following several others including those in Belém, Brasília, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Salvador.

As excitement builds for the opening of the Belo Horizonte Brazil Temple, many look forward to its significant role within the area, providing a place for spiritual growth and connection for individuals and families across Minas Gerais.
